History:

In January 2011, I participated in my first game jam -- the Global Game Jam! The theme was extinction, and the first thing that popped into my head was an artificial life simulation with the goal of preventing the extinction of the little virtual creatures. My friend and former colleague Ross Story joined me as an animator and this is what we produced in about 20 hours of work time.

Motivation:

Tons of ideas were thrown around at the game jam, but I didn't hear anything that I liked better than my A-life idea. Still, I was willing to work with another team. Unfortunately, the game jam erupted into chaos and I got frustrated by the lack of organization. Our limited time was ticking away and I didn't want to wait any longer to get started on something, so I took it upon myself to do my own project. Ross liked my idea as well so he came and joined me, and as expected, we made a great team!
